The Bluefields: An American rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. Their rock and roll story might be as pure and simple as the prior statement if it weren’t for the fact that the combined band members’ resumes boast platinum record success, a Grammy nomination, an Americana Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award and song authorships that have become iconic, rock and roll standards, making this band far from simple. Comprised of rock veterans, Warner E. Hodges on lead guitar and vocals (Jason and the Scorchers), Dan Baird on bass, guitars and vocals (Georgia Satellites), Brad Pemberton on drums (Ryan Adams and the Cardinals/Steve Earle) and Joe Blanton on lead vocals and guitar (Royal Court of China), these southern bred rockers remind you why you love rock and roll in the first damn place!
It's been awhile since the last Bluefields update and most of our friends out there know what the last half of 2017 had in store for our little family. Here's a quick recap for those who don't.
- Warner recorded a solo album, Right Back Where I Started at the Underground Treehouse with Joe Blanton at the engineering/production helm, Brad played drums, Dan played on it and Cheap Trick's fabulous Tom Petersson played bass. The superb album included Jerry Dale McFadden/The Mavericks on keys and Outlaw Country's Elizabeth Cook. Can't say enough good things about this adventurous effort from Warner as he circled back to his country, rock and punk roots. You can get the album here.
- Dan landed in a UK hospital at the end of his summer 2017 Homemade Sin tour with CLL. DB is one of the most devoted artists out there and gives everything he's got to his fans. He put up his dukes and went hard-charging into treatment. Dan won, cancer lost. We are very happy about that! While in treatment, HMS had the option to cancel the winter European Tour or see if Joe would stand in for Dan and keep the band working. Joe did. Big shoes to fill but big-hearted fans helped him through it. Dan is 100% again and itchin' to play so check out the Homemade Sin page here for 2018 tour dates and welcome our new buddy Sean Savacool to the family.
Fast forward to Jan. - Feb. 2018. DB, Joe and Warner jumped head first into writing new songs along with a few of our friends, David Newbould and the amazing Terry Anderson. Taking a page out of the Nick Lowe/Dave Edmunds/Rockpile playbook, we're making piles for Homemade Sin, Joe, Dan, and Bluefields records. These will come when they come but we've already got a really great batch. I won't give too much away here but there's a lot of creative activity goin' down at the Underground Treehouse. Anyways, thanks for continuing to support our musical endeavors, we sure like making music and having people to play it for. That's all for now. JB
